In this post, you will find a few interesting fashion habits of 5 famous artists from the past. I love finding out what famous artists wore, and what their fashion and style habits were. Artists tend to have eccentric styles, and fashion habits of dress that are creative and interesting.
1. Michelangelo Buonarroti

Michelangelo Buonarroti
Michelangelo was an Italian sculptor, painter, and architect. He needed very little sleep and was usually so focused on his work that he would spend weeks in the same clothes and shoes, and even sleep in them. His father told him he would live longer if he did. He lived until 89, which at the time, during the 1500s, was a very old age to stay alive.
2. Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali
Salvador Dali, the famous Spanish, Surrealist painter used his cane as an artistic fashion accessory. It also became an important symbol of who he was. One of his canes was made of wood, and it spiraled at the top. Another cane was made of brass, the handle of his "walking stick was shaped like Dali’s unique mustache."
Dali had a large clear plastic can, another cane of his was of a silver dog’s head, and a sailor suit. His work was definitely produced to alter reality. Some believe his cane was an influence of his work and was used as a mystical object to support his imagination and his personality. He definitely used the cane as a part of his style, and as a form of protection; sort of like a weapon.
3. Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was a famous artist, photographer, film director, and a leading figure in the pop-art movement. Warhol was also a fashion icon. He had hair loss at a very young age and wore wigs to cover the balding. He is pretty famous for his platinum wigs. He had hundreds of them and had saved them all. After he died, 40 of his wigs were archived in the Pittsburgh, PA Andy Warhol Museum.
4. Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci, was known as an artist, engineer, inventor, et cetera. He was also a fashion handbag and fashion accessory designer. He designed a Victorian leather purse around 1497. At the time when many men were wearing extra-long cloaks, Da Vinci wore a rose-colored cloak that came to his knees. He never conformed to fashion and disliked tight clothing. Da Vinci said: "They burst on many people.” He also disliked the tight shoes that were worn at the time, saying that they were so tight toes would develop corns.
5. Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe
Georgia O'Keeffe was a famous fine artist, known for her flower, skyscraper, and landscape paintings. She always wore black clothes set against white; like a white tee shirt with a black coat. She was more interested in shapes and lines than wearing lots of colors. She had a very minimal and utilitarian wardrobe. Apart from black and white, she loved wearing jeans and white tee shirts. She had a sleek, and elegant style, and her fashions symbolized and represented her style of art.
